LUKE SKYWALKER’S LIGHTSABER IS FOR SALE.
A reader has pointed out that Profiles in History is holding a Hollywood memorabilia auction, at which Luke’s iconic weapon (not sure if its the one from ‘Jedi that he built himself, or the one Alec Guiness foisted from his still smouldering dad) will be up for auction. Also for [...]

Lego: quite literally the building blocks of life.

November 20th, 2008 · 2 Comments

Apparently I have Lego on the brain! A French company is selling a line of household Lego items, such as the sofa pictured above, made from huge lego bricks. Logic dictates that this trend will gradually metamorphose cities into lego-scapes. The obvious benefit to this phenomenon would be easy reassembly after natural disasters (hurricanes, Godzilla, [...]

Use the lego, Luke…

November 19th, 2008 · 2 Comments

HOLY CRAP.
Flickr user roguebantha_1138 has posted a series of pictures of their epic Star Wars lego diorama. It’s 75 by 125cm, took about a year to make, and depicts a rebel attack on an Imperial base and mining installation. I need to change my pants.

Barbie jewellery: irony can only take you so far.

November 12th, 2008 · 1 Comment

Hate Barbie? Me too! You know what would stick it to Barbie? Jamming her face into some jewellery. Margaux Lange has rigged up a series of surpisingly good looking sterling silver rings. The best thing about these? They’re oddly uplifting. And not just for those of us who enjoy carrying around body parts. I swear, [...]

Run, you plastic bitches!

October 29th, 2008 · No Comments

Ever wanted to pretend you’re a Japanese monster? Yeah me too. I loves to get knee-deep in power lines and Howitzers. Anyway, you can now enjoy that special feeling of unbridled wrath with Baron Bob’s bystander action figures. The set features nine bystanders, wearing various looks of shock, fear, panic, and one which appears to [...]

Steampunk goggles, and how much I want them.

October 23rd, 2008 · 2 Comments

Good GOD. If anyone can find a way to buy these steampunk goggles for my Christmas, I will take them on a date. On my jetpack, to my zeppelin-powered restaurant hovering above London. Why? Because these brass goggles have the leather bolted with tiny precision-engineered rivets to the eyeglasses (which I believe are perscription). The [...]

Ever tried to make a lego effigy of yourself to fool friends and loved ones into thinking you’ve just plummeted into a gorge, but lacked the necessary craftsmanship? Well for $60 000, Marcus Neiman will build a lego version of you. Maybe I’ll buy one if i can raise the moolah. I’m anticipating acts of [...]

To the holodeck!

October 2nd, 2008 · No Comments

Remember on Star Trek: The Next Generation when Lt. Barclay had made all those twisted fantasy programmes on the Enterprise holodeck in which he could fulfill all of his sickest dreams involving the three musketeers, Wesley eating pie and Troi talking dirty on a swing?
Yeah, me neither.
Anyway, turns out the holodeck could become a reality, [...]

With this ring i blow up thee head.

October 1st, 2008 · No Comments

Ever wanted to steal a fridge with your fist? Yeah, me too. The new N50 wedding ring might make that dream come true, due to the fact that it’s essentially a super-magnet. The only problem? There’s no off-switch, meaning you probably couldn’t wear it into your local video store, nor could you lovingly stroke the [...]
