Cataclysm.

Here is the new trailer for World of Warcraft: Cataclysm. Blizzcon ‘09 is on as we speak, and the amount of information coming from there is truly staggering. Some of the highlights which have Luke and I shitting varying degrees and colors of blood are:

- Worgen and Goblins as playable races. The trailer will show a great deal of their starter cities, but what it doesn’t show are their amazing racial abilities. Hopefully they nerf the goblin bank racial. Grrr.

- The cataclysm itself has almost completely overhauled the appearance of old Azeroth. In the trailer you’ll be able to see some before and after shots, but they’ll also be pimping out Undercity to include the upper sections of the old ruins, and Stormwind will be totally buffed and more explorable. Which leads me to…

- Flying in old Azeroth! Which will help you get around all the new content, new lore, and heroics quicker.

- Yep, new heroics in old Azeroth. Grim Batol, Uldum, and motherfucking DEADMINES. Should be huge.

- The new profession, Archaeology, will have you study ruins to gain all manner of cool shit. It’s a secondary profession, and here’s the best possible rundown of this wonderful new development:

Archaeology is a secondary skill, like cooking, so anyone can get it. It ties in very closely with Path of the Titans, the new advancement system. It’s all about traveling through Azeroth finding ancient artifacts, with a mini-game to decipher what the artifact is, and then you get rewards for it. Rewards will include profession recipes, items, and money, and the big reward will be new glyph slots for Path of the Titans.

We’ll try and keep you updated on developments as they pan out. Also, HEROIC DEADMINES? FUCK YES. Now we can rip Van Cleef a new one for sweet, sweet epics.

/Paul

I say this as a nerd, no, not just a nerd, someone comfortable enough with my nerdocity that I use a gestalt of the word with approximately two thirds of the word ‘orgasm’ as my name in public internet locations.

That was bollocks. There was no tension, no real attempts to evoke excitement. It was basically just a fluffier version of the patch notes read out in a deep voice with panning cameras on it, and occasional “And there be SNEAKY shit goin’ down, dawg!” references. But, maybe I just don’t get it because I gave up on MMOs about… well bugger me, probably a year ago now.

@Nerdgasm: Well, it’s really less of a trailer and more of a list of features, pitched at people who have been into it for a while. It also helps if you’re currently playing it. :)

    Dear Paul Verhoeven,

I forgot to rub in the fact that, yet again, I was at Blizzcon… That I have hands on experience playing Cataclysm and also touched Tricia Helfer in ways you could never imagine.

    Sincerest Regards,
    Adrienne
