Getting your mount a bit too early.

WAAAAGH

In gaming news, the World of Warcraft mount system has been significantly overhauled. Or at least it will be, in patch 3.2, the same patch which will usher in the awesome new Tauren bear/cat forms, and the horrendously gay bedazzled Night Elf bear/cat forms. Sideburns and eyeliner ftw!

Below are some of the changes involved. Prepare to get a wee bit annoyed.

* Regular land mounts trainable at level 20 (was 30)
* Epic land mounts trainable at level 40 (was 60)
* Regular flying mounts trainable at level 60 (was 70)
* Regular flying mounts speed increased to a 150% gain (was 60%)

The costs for all the training and mount purchases has been decreased outright, with the exception of the artisan riding skill (epic flying mounts). For all mount costs, faction discounts now apply.

What the release doesn’t mention is that they’re also allowing three minute hearthstone timers, and with patch 3.3, they’ll mail you your first mount for free at level ten, along with removing Outland altogether.

Sarcasm off.

What baffles me is this: who was crying about this to such a degree that Blizzard actually did something about it? Is there a large faction of players who find the act of reading quests, following the plot (even loosely) and interracting with the game enviromnent so tedious that they WANT to get to the end and have nothing more to do QUICKER? It took Blizzard about four years to fix the druid forms, and even then, you can tell it was something of a quick fix effort. Who are the crybabies that made this happen? WHO? If this is because Blizzard is actually a private girls school from the fifties and the CEO’s daughter “wanted a pony”, I’ll throw up. On her.

I so don’t WoW, but maybe it’s a sign of the economic times?

man, i really think this is great. let’s be frank, it’s not really destroying the game arc, it’s only speeding up your ability to walk across the immensity that is azeroth in the early levels. i remember there was one quest that made you walk along a path for thirty minutes. without doing anything. THIRTY MINUTES. something like this is the only possible way i’d consider levelling a new character.

No quest has ever been thirty minutes. Do you mean that sleepy druid cretin crossing into Ashenvale? That was fifteen minutes, it took thirty because Manchux is retarded and he kept getting lost. In a quest helping an npc not get lost, our tank got lost. Ahh. memories.

I’m more worried about the outland thing. It means you can skip huge swathes of awesome content, and it IS going to fuck up storyline progression, in that you can literally fly OVER say, Zangarmarsh, go “ooh! lights!” and head straight to another zone. It’s not the destination, it’s the journey.

What I WILL concede is that Desolace and the Barrens suck, and a mount helps. But this mechanic shouldn’t happen at the expense of fun, interesting content.

Guys, I think you need to take out those aggressions on this:

I came across it while job hunting tonight. Guess the official WoW magazine needs a new Editor-in-Chief!

I can see where they are coming from with this. With two expansions already attached to it they probably want people who start WOW for the first time to get in the game easy, and join in on the the two expansion pretty quickly.

Still when i used to play WOW, i loved the time it took for my Human Warrior to level up and get his mount.

but still one’s ability to just vault over outlands content is still going to be constrained by the fact that a level 60 is going to have the snot beaten out of his ears by any content more than a couple of levels above him. it just gives them the opportunity to go hang out and explore in their own time. i give this 4 watermelons out of 5.

    Shut up, Himmler.

I have very mixed feelings about this.
the land mounts i can understand except maybe have epic at lvl 50 but the flying mount should be at least lvl 65 so you have had some time traversing the lands of outland by foot. hell they make you do it in northrend till your 77 even after you spent all your hard earned cash on your epic flyer.
It does give more incentive to start a new toon
and I have a sigh of relief on the artisan cost just spent my 5000g would be pissed if they dropped it!

Friday is waiting to not fuck sirs… hope it’s full of brilliance.

    I’m with Peta…
I’ve never played WOW in my life and don’t intend to now, however my libido is clearly requiring your own special brand on “cold shower”…
Or are to just assume anyone talking about (or reading people talking about) WOW is automatically not fucking anyone?
