Hit it and Quit it.

Awesome.

I have a part-time day job, which I fucking despise. And if Luke were to have an action figure released of himself, complete with kung-fu grip and a button which emitted his three most uttered phrases, those top three phrases would be:

3: Hi! I’m Luke! (Luke, you say this with alarming frequency)

2: (Something really, really white)

1: Paul, quit your fucking job. Quit it. QUIT IT. FUCK.

But the question remains. HOW do I quit my job? Well, an indie game developer has come up with a brilliantly novel way to do just that.

“Indie developer Farbs — creator of 8-bit videogame mashup Rom Check Fail and the later, similarly stylish Polychromatic Funk Monkey — quit his mainstream job as gameplay programmer at 2K Australia in fitting fashion: he created a playable take on Super Mario Bros that delivers the message far better than any scathing letter could.”

The program can be played here, and is pretty freaking hilarious. The problem, though, is that whilst half my work is with Triple J and various other media outlets, this half (the straight half, so to speak) is comprised largely of people who lack personality or humor, and such a creative gesture would probably be wasted on them. I’d probably need to go with something less subtle.

Like a strategically placed anvil, perhaps?

/Paul

Err… aren’t you worried about your work reading this?

Also, let’s quit our jobs together and start a web-based custom-pie-making business.

@lizbt: Not at all. My colleagues seem to be unaware of websites other than those concerned with football, so I should be pretty safe. :)

every time paul calls me from work i always make a point of littering the conversation with obscenities and yelling ‘fire this man’ just in the vain hope that they might choose to listen to that particular phone call for training purposes. it never happens.

Tell them you’re not ready to commit to that sort of a relationship, it’s not them it’s you, pause, apologise and tell them that it is actually them but you don’t hold anything against them and you’d still like to stay friends.

You must then walk out and avoid any contact at all costs.

Of course, 3 months into the future you will pass them in the street and be all “Oh Hi!! We should get some coffee sometime!” And you’ll be all “Oh.. hey… yeah… no, sorry i’m busy… yeah all the time… like, forever…”. Following this is an awkward silence followed by you suddenly turning and walking away quickly.

Pretend you have won the lottery. Even sport obsessed morons respond to money.

It will make them all obscenely jealous.
