As promised yesterday on Nerds of a Feather, here are some of the new screencaps from the upcoming Spike Jonze film, Where The Wild Things Are. And despite the fact that this film has taken so long to get on the ground that I could have sliced off my head, fried it in garlic, grown back a new one and STILL have years of waiting up my sleeve… it’s coming. Finally. The Wild Things look real because… well, they kind of are. CGI has been restricted to their faces, to lend the requisite air of realism, and (I hope) as a giggling “fuck you” in the face of current trends. Oh, and Jonze:
Don’t fuck it up.

Even if he does fuck it up, it looks like we can still watch it for the magnificent visuals.

I don’t think he will fuck it up. The source material is vague enough and amorphous enough to allow for reinterpretation, and given how long he has spent crafting and nurturing what clearly means a great deal to him, we should be in good hands.
Should.

i’m just worried because while he had it finished early last year (or perhaps even late 2007) the studios freaked out when children found it unsettling and for a while were threatening to scrap the whole thing and start afresh with a new director. it’s great that it’s finally happening now, but i wonder what concessions he may have had to make…

considering the amount of adult content in a lot of “childrens” movies these day i find it stupid that they would scrap it, surely you would just put a older age group to it and market it tot those who remember the what the wild things truly are.
meh there all twats anyway lets just hope they get it right

Hey Paul
You mentioned something about Demetri Martin’s blog in this segment (I think it was this segment?) Anyway I can’t seem to find it (on the first page of Google results) so can you link it please?
