Shatner for Prime Minister!

February 25th, 2009 · 4 Comments

As I reported on Tuesday’s Nerds of a Feather, William Shatner might run for Canadian PM. Observe the wonder of evidence via glorious blockquotes!

The ‘Star Trek’ actor, who played Captain Kirk in the hit sci-fi TV show, is planning to make a dramatic career change and help lead his native country.

The 77-year-old star said: “My intention is to be Prime Minister of Canada, not Governor General, which is mainly a ceremonial position.”

In his letter, Shatner regretfully added: “I must, with my deepest thanks, turn down your honourable intent to advance me as Governor General. Besides which, I don’t have time to be Governor General.” Despite his busy schedule, the actor is confident he has what it takes to run the country, explaining: “As Prime Minister I can lead Canada into even greater exploits.”

I remarked on Tuesday that this would only work is Ricardo Montalbahn was President of the United States. Seeing as how KHAAAAAAAAAN! is dead, maybe Chris Lloyd could run in his place. He could yell “Great… SCOTT!” any time a crisis went down. All of this is largely irrelevant, though, unless the Shatner for PM movement gains enough momentum, and it won’t unless people take it seriously.

Like I said. Seriously.

I kid you not, my grandad looks a bit like Shatner. It’s kinda cool, really!

As soon as I saw Shatner as I scrolled down the page, I was confident that I would see KHAAAAAAN! so either A: you’re predictable. B: I am psychic. Or C: we are all nerds of a feather. I’d prefer to think it’s B.

As PM Shatner should make it mandatory for all Canadians to have the top of their heads from the top jaw upwards completely separated from their body so it bounces when they talk therefore eliminating Canadians being mistaken for Americans when globe trotting. (Think Terence & Phillip)
