What better way to kick off Monday morning than…

Wait, apparently it’s Wednesday. My bad. Perhaps sleep IS an important thing. Anyway, what better way to kick off Wednesday than with a liberal splashing of public atheism! London busses are now proudly bearing bold trappings of the Atheist Campaign, an initiative designed to get a global society beset by fanaticism to “chill the fuck out”*. The press release which accompanies the initiative states:

The campaign, which is supported by Professor Richard Dawkins and the British Humanist Association, is a response to a series of evangelical Christian adverts running on buses in June 2008, which featured the URL of a website saying all non-Christians were going to hell. Comedy writer Ariane Sherine suggested the rational, positive slogan to reassure people who may have been scared by the evangelical adverts.

This of course raises another, even bigger, issue. Who is scared by bus adverts? Unless the ad in question depicts an abortion with fangs bursting into flames accompanied by the slogan “rock music did this”, you’re pretty safe. At least morally. And I really must apologise for using the word “abortion” this early in the morning; I do hope I haven’t put you off your knitting.

…What were we talking about again?

“Who is scared by bus adverts? ” you say… how do you think I felt in London last year when there was a 10ft Harold Bishop on the side of every bus I saw!

How ironic would it be if a priest was hit by the bus..
