It should be pointed out that both Luke and myself drink coffee. A LOT of coffee. Well, to be fair, I don’t monitor his intake. But whether you’re new to The Somewhat Ambitious or are an avid devotee, you may have noticed the inky black tongue of insanity creeping into our material. And here is a possible explanation:
People who drank more than seven cups of instant coffee a day were three times more likely to hallucinate than those who took just one, a study found.
A Durham University team questioned 200 students about their caffeine intake, the journal Personality and Individual Differences reported.
However, academics say the findings do not prove a “causal link”.
They also stress that experiencing hallucinations is not a definite sign of mental illness and that about 3% of people regularly hear voices.
“This is the first step toward looking at the wider factors associated with hallucinations,” said psychology PhD student Simon Jones, who led the study.
The only reason I’m discounting coffee as the reason we’re both barking (to be fair, Luke is far more mature than I), is because I happen to know we were both rendered mentally ill after seeing Event Horizon. No, not the movie. The actual ship. Once you’ve seen your crewmates eating each other and screaming shit in latin, your options are either joining in, or pursuing comedy. Can you guess which way we went?

Dang! That totally explains my boss (an Aussie, btw) who drinks quite a bit of Moccona! What is it with Aussies and instant coffee, anyway? Bleah!
As for Event Horizon…how much Latin do you remember? Anything about the puellae in the agris?

The trick with instant coffee is to not think of it as coffee. Just think of it as a delicious hot drink that helps with your daily caffeine intake.

Damn you coffee aficionados. There is only one true coffee, and it comes in 1kg tins with “Blend 43″ pasted on the front.
And Event Horizon still terrifies me to this day – watching Dr Alan Grant disembowelling Lucius Malfoy and leaving him hanging from a ceiling is probably more than the average 12 year old mind could handle

Oh god, Blend 43? We sell that. Just the small jars though, but what ever happened to the first 42 blends?!

if you didnt march off into them there hills with an oversize novelty cane basket.. pick what dont really look like coffee beans.. for hours in the evilest of sun.. fingers numb & bleeding.. only to trudge back down the hillside.. to spend many more hours roasting said beans.. with the evilest of man made sun machines.. then pummel the coffee bean into submision.. filtering hot water through what remains of gods creation.. then it just aint coffee.. Blend 43 has no soul!
