Innocence and Whimsy

Sometimes you get the feeling that the internet amounts to little more than an attempt to vindicate our intense longing for and endless fascination with our lost childhoods. And other times you just think it’s fucking awesome.

Pogo Decorative

Pogo Sticks: Seriously, can you believe they actually marketed pogo sticks to children? You show me a 5 year old who can bounce around on one of these things without killing themselves and I will show you the second coming of Christ. When I was little I couldn’t even get two feet on to a pogo stick without falling over. I like to think I’m not the only one. The danger is immense. Although these scruffy louts seemed to have mastered the art somewhat.

To be honest, I think I’d rest easier at night if I knew there was a full-blown licensing scheme in place to protect our children from the dangers posed by Pogo Bandits (via Zoomdoggle)

Lego: Every now and again I am stunned by the apparently not inconsiderable number of fully fledged adults who hold on to not inconsiderable collections of Lego. Yes. It’s definitely something to consider. Hm. I can remember walking into a flat in Edinburgh owned by two well-to-do professionals and being amazed by the scale model of the Golden Gate Bridge they had erected in their dining room. They then proceeded to take me on a brick by brick tour of the model and my amazement quickly turned to vacant nodding. Oh, there were so many bricks.

With that said though, there’s something about the dedication required to construct immense edifices out of children’s toys that just warms the cockles of your heart, don’t it? (cockle [noun]: an edible, burrowing bivalve mollusc with a strong ribbed shell. Uh…huh). Behold, in Toronto, the world’s tallest LEGO TOWER.

Lego Tower

BAM! That’s 29.3 metres of plastic block action right there. The good people of Toronto even flew in some ‘professional Lego builders’ from Denmark to finish the job. A rejigging of the ‘New Seven Wonders of the World’ could be in order methinks.

And on a completely different, but no less Lego related tack, famous album covers rendered in Lego.

Nevermind Lego

Love Me Do Lego

Awesome.

I don’t mean to sound like an old man, but can that be good for your knees?
