To my mind, it’s been a good year for Sesame Street based Youtube re-works. As opposed to last year, which belonged to that godforsaken ‘You Are A Pirate’ song. Whew. There was a time when I was watching that pretty much once a day… It was a dark time… Maybe not William S. Burroughs shooting up heroin in a dingy hotel room on the Mexican border dark, but dark nonetheless. Most of these have been doing the rounds for a little while, but it’s always handy to have them collated in the one place.
1. Bert and Ernie pimp it out gangsta stylezzzzzzz. I always wonder exactly how many hours of Bert and Ernie segments one has to trawl through before they find enough pieces of appropriate material to fill a 90 second edit. I couldn’t do it. It’s something about the flapping mouths. I start to get motion sick.
2. Bert and Ernie’s death metal drumming fiesta. So overstimulating. It only gets funnier the longer you watch it.
3. Jimmy Kimmel puts an entirely new sheen on the characters’ gladsome frolics
4. And finally, my personal favourite, the Count song. Sublime. I shudder to think how many times I’ve watched this. And then watched it with other people, staring them down with my mouth gaping open in some kind of anticipatory horror smile as I wait for them to start laughing. LAUGH DAMMIT, LAUGH.
Now I just want to see someone turn the Cookie Monster into a brain fried crack addict. Then all my childhood fantasies will be complete.
I had a complicated childhood.

Oh man, those are all brilliant. The death metal one is far better than the SpongeBob equivalent.

That first video was perfect, partly because it was amazingly timed and funny, but mostly because it didn’t seem out of character at all, and they didn’t defame themselves. They just went the f*ck off!
