Introductions! Also, some Shatner.

Kirk. Booyah.

So, if you’re here you’ve either been sent here by gremlins, or you’ve been listening to the Nerds of a Feather segment on the JJJ breakfast show (if it’s as a result of the former, may i recommend LESS huffing of paint). Ned (or Oz, as we’ll be referring to him, partly because he pulls the strings and speaks in a booming voice from behind a curtain, but mostly because he likes prison showers) has convinced me an introduction is in order, but i figured my blazing nerd fetishes and penchant for hyperbole will form a pretty clear picture for you. Let me give you an example: my week thus far.

I leave next week to go to Perth to work on a writing project with Lukey from Playing the Cancer Card, as well as Matty and Dan from Nova (Action Battle Team, i think; i’ve not heard their show but i like the way the little one makes eyes at me). This trip is the reason i didn’t feel bad about planning a fifteen-hour Warcraft crawl with Ned. And so the two drunkest members of The Somewhat Ambitious (our guild) began gaming around midday last Monday, and finished up around 3am. So no, we did not in fact reach our goal. We did, however, burn through several beers, a bottle of vodka and half a bottle of excellent gin, and as a direct result shot this video on or around the 11th hour.

…ladies.

The Breakfast crew are on holidays this week, which means i am too. So to placate your need for awesome yet trivial doodads, let’s promptly get down to the business of nerding it up.

If you didn’t run out and buy the Shatner/Folds masterwork Has Been when it was released a few years back, you’re … well, you’re probably a well-adjusted person, and i wouldn’t dream of implying otherwise. But apart from being the only album (that I’m aware of) that boasts an angry-old-man orgy of shouting with the Shat, Henry Rollins and a pumping jazz backing, Has Been also has Shatner covering Pulp’s seminal work Common People. Here’s a beautiful mashup of said song with footage from the Trek animated series, long consigned to the musty cellar of camp. Incidentally, that same cellar also houses several life-sized plastic deer, a vinyl copy of Jane Mansfield reading Twelfth Night, and an army of ants. Angry, tangential ants.
